We pride ourselves on managing all client portfolios personally, using individual securities rather than proprietary products like mutual funds. By owning individual stocks, bonds, and preferred stocks, we reduce costs for our clients by eliminating the fees that would otherwise be paid to the managers of these proprietary products. This approach not only helps provide better returns for our clients but also eliminates the middleman, simplifying the investment process and ultimately offering a superior customer experience.
About Our Investment Philosophy
We believe that we approach portfolio management differently. What sets us apart is our unique approach to core allocation, centered around a Dividend Growth Philosophy. This time-tested strategy has historically provided outperformance while limiting volatility. The rules are simple: we aim to own businesses that pay a dividend to shareholders and have a proven track record, as well as the future capacity, to increase that dividend at least once a year. If a company we own fails this test, it is replaced by another that better fits this philosophy.
Depending on each client's individual circumstances, time horizon, and risk preferences, we determine the appropriate mix of other asset classes like bonds, preferred stocks, and alternative investments to complement this core allocation. This approach allows us to create tailor-made portfolios that fit each client's unique profile, ensuring that their investments align with their financial goals and risk tolerance.
A Look Into Our Process
We believe in a structured yet personalized approach to ensure that our clients receive the best possible service tailored to their unique needs. Our process is designed to be thorough, transparent, and collaborative.
Step One: Initial Interview
Our process begins with an initial interview where we introduce ourselves and get to know each other. During this meeting, we gather crucial information to evaluate the client's specific needs, circumstances, and financial goals. If the client is interested in hearing a proposal, we typically schedule a follow-up meeting.
Step Two: Proposal Creation
After the initial interview, we take into consideration everything the client has shared with us. By understanding the client's individual circumstances—such as investable assets, annual income, stated financial goals, expected liquidity needs, investment history, and risk preferences—we create a proposal that is most appropriate to help the client achieve their goals.
Step Three: Presentation
In the next meeting, we present our proposal in detail to the client. If the client is impressed and decides to move forward, we bring in our assistant, Julie, to help with the onboarding process.
Step Four: Onboarding
The onboarding process includes gathering all the necessary information from the client to open an account(s). Julie prepares all the required documents to open and fund the account(s), ensuring a smooth transition.
Step Five: Implementation
Once the account(s) is open, we begin the implementation of the proposal that was presented. This step involves executing the investment strategy and allocating assets according to the agreed-upon plan.
Step Six: First Account Review
After three months of being invested, we contact the client for the first account review. These reviews will then reoccur every 3-4 months, depending on the client's preference. During the account review, we assess performance, recommend any relevant allocation changes, and confirm with the client that none of their circumstances have changed since we last met. If there have been changes, we discuss whether adjustments to the portfolio are necessary.
By following this structured process, we aim to build a strong, trusting relationship with our clients, ensuring that their financial goals are consistently met and adapted to their evolving needs.
